A TRIP up the skies with the gushing wind beating against the face and you having a bird's eye view of your city for the very first time in your life—sounds exciting?

It truly was for those privileged youngsters who encountered the real excitement of flying like a bird and first time experienced the thrill of air adventure sports.
"It was a truly exciting and adventurous trip. There was excitement together with risk, when the glider flew 600 feet from the ground. Right from the time the small glider moved forth and took off, my heart came right out to my mouth as I saw the skies closing in on us. The most frightening yet exciting moment was during the landing when the ground started to approach fast and I closed my eyes in fear", said Sangraj Shaukand, a student of Class VII of Air Force School, Bamrauli, minutes after touch down. The excitement brimming from his face was testimony enough for even a skeptic that the mission, at least in part, was already a success.
Another youngster, a student of Class IX Shruti Wankhade too confessed that it was "a never-before experience" for her too.
"Words seem inadequate to describe all that goes in your head as soon as you push forth. The blood rushes to your head even as you have a surreal experience of seeing everything as a third person. As you realise that it is actually you, the surroundings totally overwhelm you. This one flight up the sky has made up my mind. I am going to join the IAF," she said with determination writ large on her face.
Similar expressions of eagerness and enthusiasm could be seen on the faces of other youngsters who too were taken on a ride.
Expressing their views, students of standard 11th of Kendriya Vidhyalay Bamrauli Durjoy Bhattacharya and another student Manish Mohanta said that a ride on the glider was a real thrill.
Yet another young face, Surabhi Tripathi, a NCC cadet shared her views and said, "Only two NCC cadets were permitted to have an experience of the expedition. And I was among the lucky ones."
A Class-XII student of Kendriya Vidyalaya Bamrauli Sneha Gupta had altogether a different motive: Overcoming the fear of falling off from 100 feet up in the air during a mishap in a para-sailing attempt, a few years back, and going up once again, she completed her mission with flying colours.
