A noble step
The Editorial, More than just scheming (February 7), about proper implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to help the rural poor is well-founded in view of past experience.
The Editorial, More than just scheming (February 7), about proper implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to help the rural poor is well-founded in view of past experience. If the funds provided in previous budgets for poverty alleviation had reached the poor, not a single person in this country would have remained below the poverty line. If this plan is adopted, people of rural India will be taken care of. There will be much less chances of money going down the drain.

Kudos to the government for implementing the NREG Act. With all the economic progress India has made, it’s time for the rural poor to reap its benefits. It is very heartening that their purchasing power will also be increased. This act is a step in right direction.

Don’t stop the bulldozers
All illegal constructions must be razed to the ground (PM calls meet to stop bulldozers, February 7). Every honest citizen feels confident that the law of the land is finally taking its course.
For the betterment of our country, the courts should keep up this good job so that coming generations will remain grateful for living in a city not built on corruption and broken laws.

It is disappointing that the prime minister wants to stop bulldozers from demolishing illegal constructions. A law is effective only when it is implemented. These constructions cause problems that include water shortage, fire hazards and security. The MCD must honour the high court’s order. People are watching.

Nothing for the poor
The sensex touching the 10,000 mark has brought good cheer for investors (Sensex scripts history, February 7). But does this amount to any change for wage-earners and the salaried class? Will the prices of essential commodities come down? Unless this happens, only the rich will become richer and the aam aadmi will have to keep his fingers crossed.
