Abadi land, BKU ups ante

The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) on Saturday held a panchayat at Dankore and protested against the authority’s attitude over abadi land issues.

“The authority officers don’t seem to be in a mood to redress the abadi issue. They want signature of farmers on a pact without resolving the abadi land claims,” said Ajay Pal Sharma, president, BKU.

“The problem of ancestral and non-ancestral farmers is not restricted to Patwari alone,” said Sharma. “We’ve given a memorandum to the authority asking it to treat both ancestral and non-ancestral at par,” Sharma added.

"Farmers buying land in many villages in the district should be given the benefit of ancestral farmers in all villages where they hold the land. We have no objection if non-district farmers or businessman or non-farming individuals are treated as non-ancestral," said Sharma.
