Chidambarammal and her daughter Seetha were quarrelling with their neighbour K Sundaram over the boundary wall separating the two houses, when an infuriated Sundaram rushed inside his house, fetched a bottle of acid and flung its contents on Chidambarammal.
When Seetha rushed to help her mother, she had acid thrown on her as well. Both have been admitted at the Tirunelveli Government Hospital. Chidambarammal has 50% burns and Seetha 20%.
