?ADC to stay for 30 months?

Dashing the hopes of private telecom service providers, the communication ministry on Thursday declared that the access deficit charge (ADC) levy will continue for at least 30 months more.

Dashing the hopes of private telecom service providers, the communication ministry on Thursday declared that the access deficit charge (ADC) levy will continue for at least 30 months more. Speaking at the Economic Editors Conference, communications and infotech minister Dayanidhi Maran said the levy was created with good intentions and would continue as it was supporting rural connectivity.

Elaborating on other initiatives taken by the ministry, Maran said that the finance ministry had been approached for providing an additional Rs 2,500 crore in the current fiscal to bolster rural connectivity.

The minister added that India was lagging behind in the areas of indigenous manufacture of telecom equipment.

Toll-free ILD complaints line

DoT has set up a toll-free line for people to call and register their complaints in the event that they receive ILD calls with jumbled ID’s or missing numbers.
