Afzal and his brother Mukhtar Ansari, Mau MLA, have been named as the accused in the murder case.

The order was passed by Justice Poonam Srivastava today.

BJP MLA from Muhammadabad (Ghazipur), Krishnanand Rai, along with his seven aides, was killed on November 27, 2005 in Ghazipur. Rai and his associates were in two Qualis heading from Siyadi to Kanuwan when they were ambushed by criminals with AK47/AK56 rifles. Six other persons, accompanying Rai who were in the second vehicle escaped unhurt.

Afzal and Mukhtar were named as the accused in the FIR lodged in the case.

Allegedly election rivalry had led to the murder of Rai, who had defeated Afzal in the Assembly election.

The High Court had later, directed the CBI to investigate the case.
