Uncertainty continues to grip the All India Forward Bloc over the question of aligning with the AIADMK for the coming assembly polls.
A top party leader saying they would go it alone if the latter did not extend an invitation to them to join the fold.
"If there is no invitation from the AIADMK, we will fight the polls alone. We will keep demanding more seats if the AIADMK delays the invitation," Karthik, AIFB state president said after the party's state committee meeting in Madurai on Friday night.
On January 26, AIFB said that there was no truth in reports that the party had decided to align with the AIADMK in the assembly polls and that no decision had been taken on it.
Karthik had then stated that his unit formulate the stand to be taken and forward it to the central committee, which was the final authority.
On March 12, AIFB general secretary Debrabata Biswas had announced at the party's state-level conference at Tirunelveli that they would go it alone in the polls.
Karthik said there was a heated debate in Friday's meeting on the issue of going it alone or whether to contest the polls in alliance with some party, following which it was decided that AIFB should join hands with AIADMK, if the latter extended an invitation to this effect.
He declined to comment on AIFB state general secretary L Santhanam's statement that it was the party which was delaying talks with AIADMK,though the latter had thrown its doors open.
It may be recalled that Santhanam has already been given one seat by the AIADMK. Though he has been suspended from the AIFB, it has been stayed by the court.
