Ajai Singh (37), a raagi (hymn singer) with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), was visiting Canada when the incident was reported to the police on February 9.

Police spokesman Ian McDonald confirmed that Ajai faced the charges but didn't reveal further details as the victim is a minor. There is also a publication ban on reporting details of the incident.

Ajai's father Puran Singh was the Akal Takht head in the late 1990s. The accused has been suspended by the SGPC for the alleged misconduct.
