They should launch some sort of a contest now, with each new Bollywood release: Guess the Hollywood original and win free tickets. Trust me, many producers would make more money through SMS entries than they actually manage at the box office.

Okay, let’s start the Aksar guessing game: Rich hubby is bored with hothead wifey, pays a casanova to seduce her and have sex with her. Hubby’s plan: Catch them in the act and seek divorce. Plan works, with a snag: Casanova and wifey fall in love. Do what you will, snarls wifey at hubby, casanova stays in our mansion as my pet poodle. Cuckolded hubby won’t give up. He launches Plan II: Create a situation where casanova is killed, and wifey gets framed.

The film seems to be a mish-mash of a couple of Hollywood films.

Indecent Proposal

in reverse?

Unfaithful

with a twist? Fargo gone too far? Uh…huh, director Ananth Narayan Mahadevan ain’t giving you those free tickets so easily. While this one has shades of all of the above

, Aksar

looks like something that sneaked out of French noir. With

masala

smattered all over of course (read, Bollywood

jhatkas

on Himesh Reshamiyya’s

chalu

chartbusters).

Dino looks suave, stutters on dialogues. Emraan sleepwalks through his umpteenth casanova act. Udita looks somewhat bloated, dazzles in parts (the jhatka parts, that is).

PS: I’m still trying to figure out the original. If you’ve guessed it from this review, do let Mr Mahadevan know. May be, he’ll give you those free tickets after all.
