Akshay Kumar's new gameplan
Akshay Kumar’s mid-year resolution is: shoot for one film at a stretch then move on to the next. Vajir Singh tells more.
Akshay Kumar is sporting a new look these days: short hair and a beard. And no, it’s not his response to the Mumbai summer – he’s done it for Yashraj Films’ Tashan, for which he started shooting from the first of this month at Film City.
The film also stars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, both of whom are expected to join the shoot nextweek.
A source tells us Kumar has decided to do only one film at a time. The actor recently completed shooting on both Heyy Babyy and Bhool Bhulaiyya.
“It’s his new resolution. He wants to give bulk dates to each film so it can be completed in one stretch. He shoots for Tashan in the night while during the day, he’s busy dubbing for Heyy Babyy or Bhool Bhulaiya,” says the source.
“Singh the King is expected to go on the floors sometime in September as Kumar wants to keep himself free for the promotion of Heyy Babyy, which is scheduled to release in August,” says the source. While the schedule is expected to begin in September, its leading lady has not been finalised yet.
And by end-2007, Kumar will return to action, the genre he started off in. He plans to start shooting for an action film for Rohan Sippy, to be directed by Nikhil Advani.
Reportedly titled Mera Naam Chin Chin Choon, 90 per cent of its shoot will be in China. Deepika Padukone, who will debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om, has been signed on to play the lead opposite Kumar.
“Deepika has a double role in it. And one of her characters will have lots of stunt work,” stated the source.
