ALL 960 samples of poultry from Madhya Pradesh sent to the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory (HSADL) for bird flu testing have been found negative and until now not even a single case has been reported in the State.

Veterinary Services Commissioner Rajesh Rajoura said today that several precautionary measures were immediately put in place soon after the first bird flu case was confirmed from Nandurbar (Maharashtra) on February 18. About 437 samples were collected from all over the State and sent to HSADL for bird flu testing.

Of these, results of 284 samples sent on February 18, 61 samples sent on February 22 and 92 samples sent on February 23 have all been declared as negative for bird flu.

Besides, 437 more samples sent to HSADL in due course have also tested negative, the veterinary services commissioner stated.

About 205 samples collected during January and February, and 318 samples collected prior to January have also tested negative for bird flu virus. Subsequently, all 906 samples from the State have tested negative and there has been no incidence of bird flu in the State till date, the commissioner maintained.

As there was no case of bird flu till now, there was no ban imposed on the transportation of poultry and related products from one district to another in Madhya Pradesh and outside the State. Still, as a precautionary measure, regular inspection and surveillance of poultry products coming into Madhya Pradesh from Maharashtra and Gujarat is being conducted.

Strict vigil will continue in places in the State frequented by migratory birds as well as on all poultry products, poultry farms, hatcheries, poultry markets and related areas.

The veterinary services directorate’s 24-hour control room will also continue functioning and its telephone number is 2771933 while fax number is 2772061.
