Spirituality means different things to most people, that is, those who even choose to try and understand the meaning of the word. Most people, even though they don't know it, are asleep. They're born asleep, they live their whole lives in an unconscious state, asleep.
They carry on living in their sleep; they die in their sleep without ever waking up. They never understand the loveliness and the beauty of this thing that we call human existence. All they can see is that they are living a nightmare, which they call 'life'. Even their own kids become a part of that bothersome nightmarish life, not realizing that they are there to help them awaken to the innocent loveliness of the awakened state.
Every New Year is the time to make resolutions. Would we like to start Year 2004 with just 'one' little one? The 'one' little one that will take us out of this dream state into the 'real' world of living every moment as if it was the only one that matters. For it is with these 'now' moments that we build the life that we wish it to be! Shall we 'now' resolve to enjoy every relationship that has been put into our lives, for even the most irritating ones can become beautiful if we treat them with a touch of humour?
Like this little tale about the Angel Ornament? Christmas always brings with it its humour and wit. Ever wondered why there is always an angel stuck on top of the Christmas tree? I always thought that this was the Angel of good cheer, in charge of all the Christmas Spirits bringing in the gifts of love at the bottom of the tree. How wrong I was! The poor little angel was being punished for something 'wrong' that he once did. Read on…
Santa was very upset. It was Christmas Eve and NOTHING was going right! Mrs. Claus had burned all the cookies. The elves were complaining about not getting paid for the overtime they had done while making the toys. The reindeer had been drinking all afternoon and were dead drunk. To make matters worse, they had taken the sleigh out for a spin earlier in the day and had crashed it into a tree.
Santa was furious. "I can't believe it! I've got to deliver millions of presents all over the world in just a few hours and all of my reindeer are drunk, the elves are on strike and I don't even have a Christmas tree!"
He continued, "And I sent that stupid Little Angel out hours ago to find a tree and he isn't even back yet! What am I going to do?" Just then, the Little Angel opened the front door and stepped in from the snowy night, dragging a Christmas tree behind him. He said, "Yo, fat man! Where do you want me to stick the tree this year?"
And well, now you know where the angry Santa put the angel!! Thus the tradition of angels atop the Christmas tree got its start.
