Police said Basir Khan, a CPI(M) supporter, was forcibly taken away from his Jaynagar home under Jhargram sub-division by armed ultras last evening.

His bullet-riddled body was recovered from the area today.

According to preliminary probe, Khan was forced to accompany a Maoist procession which went around certain neighbouring police station areas in Lalgarh shouting slogans in support of the 48-hour bandh call in seven states.

He was later taken to an undisclosed location and his body found lying along a deserted stretch.

Khan, who had a meat shop in Jhargram town, had in recent times stopped participating in party activities, his family claimed.

The incident took place a day after the gunning down of CPI(M) local committee Secretary Hemanta Pradhan by Maoists at Dhanghori in Sankrail police station area of the district.
