Health department reports said one-year-old Simran, daughter of Ashraf of Peethipur village in Kaudihar block, tested positive for polio.
Her stool samples were sent to the SGPGI and Mumbai, on October 16 and 18, after she showed the symptoms of acute flaccid paralysis.
The report indicated that Simran was afflicted with polio. Similarly, child Momijan (two months), daughter of Mohd Muslim of Haddi Godown Kareli, was also afflicted with polio about a month back. “Simran was administered polio drops.
But after she showed symptoms of acute flaccid paralysis, her stool samples were sent to the SGPGI which confirmed the case,” the reports said. After Momijan in Kareli, this was the second confirmed case of polio in the district, said Dr Kalim Akmal, nodal officer, pulse polio programme. Dr Akmal said they were not getting proper cooperation from other government departments in managing the polio drive.
“It’s only the health department which single handedly manages the polio drive,” he said.
Besides, several agencies appointed to carry out the drive, only condemned the efforts of the health department, he added.
About two months back, three kids, belonging to Allahabad and Kaushambi, also tested polio positive. According to the health department records, the kids included Puja (two), daughter of Sheshmani of Handia Bazar, Piyush (six months), son of Shyam Babu of Nai Basti Kydganj and Neetu (four), daughter of Jai Singh Patel of Peepal Gaon Jhalwa in Chail.
