Several agitators forcefully closed the main entrance to Hamidia hospital in the morning and lay on the road leading up to it. The OPD remained blocked till almost noon. Students held anti-reservation placards and shouted slogans.

Later, the protestors moved to the traffic circle in front of GPO and staged a road blockade for almost an hour. Police force was deployed at the spot and agitating doctors alleged they were dragged and beaten up before being forcefully taken away from the spot.

“Four of our colleagues have been hurt due to the dragging and shoving by police personnel deployed at the chakka jam site,” GMC junior doctors’ association president Dr Manish Rawat charged. He added the road blockade was totally peaceful
but the police still used force to disperse the demonstrators.

Dr Rawat said an open debate will be organised on May 25 on the issue. “The debate will be held in the evening and some IAS officials and other renowned intellectuals of the City would be present as judges,” Dr Rawat said. He, however, added the venue and names of judges were yet to be finalised.
