On the eve of the International Anti-Child Labour Day, a workshop on ‘Peoples’ role to keep a check on child labourers’ was organised, here on Sunday. About 30 NGOs of Kanpur City and Dehat took party in the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives of several NGOs expressed their displeasure at the efforts put in by the State government to check child labour.
Common opinion of the NGOs was that even court orders were being flouted and the money allotted for the rehabilitation of child labourers was being misappropriated. Speaking on the occasion, president of Save Childhood, Kamal Kant Tewari, said, “In the larger interest of child labourers, people must boycott all such hotels, shops, workshops and other commercial establishments which have engaged child labourers.”He also issued an appeal to boycott products of such companies that have engaged child labourers. “The menace of child labour can be eradicated only with the active support of the masses. A movement against child labour also needs active public support.”
