Pursuing such a policy would make the task of national integration even more difficult, he said in an interaction with mediapersons. Singh was here to attend private functions.
Reiterating the party’s commitment to the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya, he said the BJP was a firm believer in the need to protect the unity and integrity of the nation. He claimed that in order to serve its interests, the UPA Government had suspended the IMDT Act in Assam to provide assistance to Bangladeshi infiltrators.
He said the Union Government had decided to bring a Non-Indian Citizenship Bill in Parliament and a tribunal would deal with all issues of infiltration. He referred to a headcount of Muslims in the army, and the Andhra Pradesh Government’s move to give 5 per cent reservation to Muslims in government jobs.
He said though the High Court had rejected the proposal for reservation in the name of religion and quashed the minority status of the Aligarh Muslim University, the Union Government was determined to make laws to override these decisions. Singh said assembly elections in West Bengal and other States were round the corner and the ruling combine was planning to win the polls with support from infiltrators, whose names were included on the voter lists.
He said the victory of the party candidate in the Mohamdabad assembly by-election was a sign that people of the state wanted a change of guard. He said the victory would boost the morale of BJP workers.
To a question, Singh said Uma Bharti was a mass leader and her absence from the party would be felt. He further said those making light of the issue were underestimating the popularity of the firebrand leader. Coming down heavily on the State Government, he said there was no rule of law in the State, criminals were moving freely and the common man was living in fear.
He said during the two-and-half-year tenure of the SP Government, 9,000 murders had taken place. He also said Rs 300 crore was earmarked for development work in Saifai, while only Rs 1.50 crore was allocated for development of Purvanchal. Kalyan Singh also addressed a party workers’ meeting at Saraswati Vidya Mandir and asked them to expose the misdeeds of the UPA Government.
