Apple Computers' big bite for B'wood

Apple says editing with Power Mac G5s and Final Cut Pro 4 can help Indian filmmakers match up to Hollywood.

Computer company Apple has high-tech plans to tempt Bollywood. Apple is keen popularise its technologies within India's film industry and hopes to lure Bollywood to use Power Mac G5s in its editing suites.

"India is a huge untapped market for Apple, and apart from traditional markets, such as designing and animation, we are also looking at Bollywood as a potentially large market", Richard Ng, Apple's product manager for Asia Pacific region has been quoted as saying.

Rohan Sippy, director of Kuch Naa Kaho, was one of the first to use Final Cut Pro 4 to edit a film in India. According to BBC, Apple's move may help the Bollywood film industry which produces 800 films each year compared to Hollywood's 100 movies, and only attracts a market share valued at $3.5 billion. The global film industry is worth $300 billion.
