The public reunion of sorts in Tamil Nadu’s temple town came on a day when their father said in party organ Murasoli that factional feuds — referring to a turf war in Thanjavur between party leaders TR Baalu and SS Palanimanickam — were making him “sleepless”. The last publicised meeting of the brothers in January.

Though Alagiri, Union minister, and Stalin, the DMK’s youth wing leader, were not available for comment, sources in the party said the younger brother made a peace move.
