The jawan had been identified as Vivek Singh, a native of Kukanaar in Dantewada district. He was posted in the security wing of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Bastar.

A senior police official said the jawan was playing cricket along with a few people in Maoist-infested Tendulnaar village under Kukanaar police station in Dantewada district when some unidentified people took him away into the forests.

Since the report had not been lodged with the police, the officials refused to say anything on record even as they were waiting for other details related to the incident.

"The possibility of Naxalites' involvement in the incident could not be ruled out," the police official said.
