Assam recovered from their defeat against Tripura to beat Orissa by five wickets in the second match of the East Zone one-dayers at the Nehru Stadium, Jealgora, on Wednesday. Orissa, having lost both their matches so far are almost out of contention for qualifying from the zone as the second team after Bengal. Jharkhand, who defeated Tripura in the other match of the day at the Digwadih Stadium by just one run look the frontrunners to grab the second spot after winning two of their three matches.
But what looked surprising and perhaps justified Assam's loss to Tripura, was their attitude. With constant announcements being made on the public address system giving updates of the other match, they knew that Tripura had a good chance of winning the match. Had Tripura gone on to record a second upset, then they would have seven points from the two wins having conceded a bonus point to Bengal. That would have given a great opportunity to Assam.
