ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY (AU) could soon have a fresh batch of officials appointed to 25 newly created non-teaching posts for better administration of the varsity.

AU Executive Council (EC) on Thursday held a marathon six-hour meeting and approved creation of the posts and also decided to seek University Grants Commission's sanction for them immediately.
The new posts would put an additional burden of Rs 70 lakh per annum on the varsity coffers.
The posts approved include one post each of Dean (Research and Development), Internal Auditor, Executive Engineer, Controller of Exams, Legal Officer, Director of Colleges, Placement Officer and Public Relation Officer (PRO) besides six posts each of Assistant Registrar and Section Officer.
Other posts given the green signal are: Deputy Registrar (3) and Assistant Executive Engineer (2).
During the meeting, the Councillors deliberated and agreed in principle to take over the Hindu Hostel on a perpetual lease as offered by the managing society.
The EC decided to form a six-member committee with EC member Sunit Vyas as its chairman and EC members Girdhar Gopal, Satya Prakash Malviya, Dean Students Welfare (DSW) Prof Jagdamba Singh, Registrar Firdous A Wani and Finance Officer S Parabramaiah as members to look into the modalities of the deal and the way to manage it after taking possession.
The Executive Council gave its green signal for the appointment of Prof Nalini Kant Jha of Pondicherry Central University to the Rajiv Gandhi Chair sanctioned by the UGC to AU's Political Science department.
EC members also okayed the selection of Prof Indira Mehrotra and Dr Shanti Sunderam as the warden and the superintendent of the newly constructed Kalpana Chawla Girls' Hostel. Appointment of Hindi department's Mushtaque Ali as the warden of the Muslim Boarding Hostel.
Over the issue of letting the GB Pant Social Science Institute to maintain its autonomous character, the members in principle agreed to it but decided to let a special committee to be headed by the VC Prof Rajen Harshe make a final recommendation in this regard.
After being pointed out by EC member Sunit Vyas that the provision of Rs 25 lakh for LTC and medical facilities for employees was insufficient, the EC decided to raise it to Rs 1 crore.
Besides okaying the purchase of four staff cars for transportation needs of the officials and the guests, the EC made 75 per cent attendance of students compulsory not only in the university but also in the colleges and at the same time decided to hike honorarium to guest lectures from Rs 100 per lecture to Rs 250 per lecture as per UGC norms but the payment will have an upper limit of Rs 10,000.
The limit of a one-time grant of Rs 1.5 crore to colleges for development also came up for detailed discussion with EC member Dr Yamuna Parasad terming it insufficient specially for some of the big colleges under the fold of AU.
The limit was later raised to Rs 3-4 crore but only after submission of proposals by the colleges and its scrutiny.
The delay in the payment of salary to the re-employed teachers— who have not received salaries for the past many months—was also discussed and then cleared by the apex body of the AU.
