THE STUDENT leaders of Allahabad University (AU) received a setback when the varsity authorities turned down their demand to increase seats and to reduce the fee as they decided to maintain the present status of seats and fee structure prevailing in the varsity. The decision was taken in a meeting of all Deans, Heads of Departments, Proctor and Dean Student Welfare (DSW) held at the residence of AU Vice-Chancellors on Sunday late evening.

The decision was taken in a meeting of all Deans, Heads of Departments, Proctor and Dean Student Welfare (DSW) held at the residence of AU Vice-Chancellors on Sunday late evening.
The authorities carried out thorough discussions on all demands set forth by student leaders in the meeting. After a lengthy discussions with the HoDs and Deans the VC gave the final verdict to maintain the existing status of seats in the under-graduate and post-graduate courses of the varsity.
The authorities were aware of the resistance offered by the student leaders against the decision and decided to tighten the security on the campus. The finance proposal for bus service for the girl students was passed in the meeting.
However the authorities have decided to avail services of private or government bus service instead of purchasing a bus for the purpose.
The authorities also decided not to reduce the tuition and hostel fees, which according to them, was already lower than fee charged by other central universities leaving no scope for further reduction in the fee.
Dean Students Welfare (DSW) Prof Jagdamba Singh told HT Allahabad Live on Monday that the varsity authorities rejected the demands of the students to increase the seats and decrease the fees. He said, however, the VC told the varsity officials present in the meeting that he has much in store for the students' welfare and the declaration of the welfare schemes shall be made by him on August 15.
