The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) removed a liquor vend, located on a prime location at Iffco Chowk, on Gurgaon Expressway on Monday.

“The liquor vend was located in the green belt area of Huda and was being run without a licence from the competent authority,” said Huda administrator Praveen Kumar.

The move comes in the wake of clearing green belts and other roadside space across the city to improve slip roads, construction etc.

“We are constructing the slip road at Iffco Chowk and the liquor vend was a hindrance,” said the administrator, adding that he had issued an ultimatum to the vend owner to remove the same on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, city residents have appealed to Huda to remove liquor vends located in green belts along major roads at the earliest.

Sources said a majority of liquor vends belonged to influential people.

“We are not concerned about whom the vend belonged to,” said a senior Huda official.

The liquor vends at Signature Tower Chowk, Maharana Pratap Chowk and several other places are in close proximity to residential areas, schools and religious sites.
