The southeast Delhi police have busted two separate gangs of auto lifters and have arrested six members who were involved in several cases of vehicle theft in the recent past.
Eighteen motorcycles which were stolen from different parts of Delhi were also recovered by the police.
The arrested auto lifters have been identified as Vivek Kumar, 24, Chander Bhushan, 22, Dheeraj, 38, Ajesh Pal, 34, Raju Kumar, 32 and Untesh, 28. While Vivek was arrested by a team of the Kalkaji police station, the other accused were nabbed by a team from the Okhla police station.
Ajay Chaudhry, additional CP (southeast), said Vivek was nabbed after a brief chase by a police patrolling team when he was trying to escape after making a failed attempt to steal a motorcycle in Kalkaji area.
"The team apprehended Vivek while his associate managed to flee. A master key and some lock breaking equipment were recovered from his possession. His interrogation revealed that he was involved in over a dozen cases of vehicle theft," said Chaudhry.
