The Ayodhya dispute is turning out to be a long drawn legal battle with neither party involved in the dispute willing to yield. Much was expected on the Ayodhya front this year, particularly after the court ordered Archeological Survey of India (ASI) to carry limited excavation at the disputed site last year.

Priorities in the legal battle too seem to change with the change in political dispensation in Uttar Pradesh and the Centre. The Mulayam Singh Yadav led government in Uttar Pradesh Government has now appealed against the earlier court verdict absolving BJP leader LK Advani from the charges of demolition of Babri structure. In another twist to the legal battle former Chief Minister of UP Kalyan Singh after his return to BJP fold has retracted all allegations he had leveled against BJP leaders including AB Vajpayee and LK Advani.

As the legal process lingers on each passing day makes the issue more complex. A solution seems nowhere in sight.
