Balakrishnan sworn in as chief justice

Justice KG Balakrishnan succeeds Chief Justice YK Sabharwal and will have a tenure of three years and four months.

Justice KG Balakrishnan was sworn in as the Chief Justice of India on Sunday, the first Dalit to assume the post.

President APJ Abdul Kalam administered the oath of office and secrecy to Balakrishnan, 61, who is the 37th Chief Justice of India.

He succeeds Chief Justice YK Sabharwal and will have tenure of three years and four months.
