he Bangalore North Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka has been a Congress bastion held by vetaral leader CK Jaffer Sharief for decades now. He is in the fray once again.

He had defeated his nearest rival Muchael Fernandes of JD(U) by 17,5,885 votes in 1999 in a six-cornered contest.

In 1998, Sharief had drubbed Dr Jeevaraj Alva by a margin of 72,447 votes. In 1996, C Narayanaswamy of Janata Dal had defeated Mohamed Obaidulla Sharief of Congress by 13,3,302 votes.

CK Jaffer Sharief had won 1989 and 1991 polls also from here defeating C Narayanaswamy (JD) and Lawrence V Fernandes (JD) by a margin respectively.

The constituency comprises eight assembly segments of which 6 are represented by Congress party and two constituencies – Hoskote and Shivajinagar are represented by other political parties.
