Beri warm welcome

Designer Ritu Beri made a grand comeback at the fashion week after 10 years.

Fashion designer Ritu Beri made a comeback with her show at the Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week last night. Prod the designer further and she interrupts, “I had never gone anywhere. I am merely making a comeback to the Indian fashion week, not the fashion circuit.”

Ten years ago, Beri showcased at the first fashion week in Delhi. So what held her back for so long? “Well, it got really chaotic (with too many fashion weeks) and I didn’t know if I was ready. But now under Mr Sethi’s (Sunil Sethi, president, FDCI) leadership, things are looking better and more organised,” says Beri who showed a “fuss-free, very wearable and very ‘ME’ collection.”

Talking further about her line, Beri says, “It’s a summer line so there are a lot of whites, gold, khakhi and my favourite — denim blue. Also there’s black, without which your wardrobe is incomplete.”

The designer made waves at various fashion weeks internationally and married businessman Bobby Chadha in 2004. Even as industry insiders presumed that Beri has bid adieu to fashion weeks in India, she surprised them all with her show last night. Another surprise came in the form of actor Abhay Deol, who was seen on the ramp with Beri. “He is one person who embodies my creations — casual, fun, quirky and yet elusive. It was good to have him around,” concludes Beri.
