RAJYA SABHA MP and former UP Advocate General Virendra Bhatia said here on Friday that the city lawyers were grateful to Chief Minister for choosing an advocate for the post of mayor.

He said that it enhanced the prestige of the lawyers of the State.

The SP declared Vinod Chandra Dubey, president of Allahabad District Court Bar Association, as its candidate for the post of mayor.

Bhatia also thanked chairman of the selection committee and State cabinet minister Shiv Pal Singh Yadav for choosing Dubey as party candidate.

Bhatia said that a large number of lawyers resided in the district.

Bhatia also said that as national president of the Samajwadi Adhivakta Sabha he made all possible efforts that ticket was given to a lawyer for the post of mayor.
Lauding the decision of the party high command, Bhatia said that advocates, who fought for justice, were the natural leaders of the society.

Therefore, choosing a lawyer as candidate was highly appreciable, he added.

Urging the intellectuals, especially the lawyers, to ensure the victory of
Dubey, Bhatia narrated several welfare schemes launched by the Samajwadi Party government for the lawyers.
