Bhilai Steel Plant wins the PM's trophy

Steel Authority of India's Bhilai Steel Plant has won the Prime Minister's trophy for the "best performing steel plant in the country" for 2005-06.

Steel Authority of India's Bhilai Steel Plant has won the Prime Minister's trophy for the "best performing steel plant in the country" for 2005-06.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would present the award at a function to be held at Visakhapatnam on May 20, the company said in a release.

The award includes a citation scroll and a cheque for Rs one crore, it said.

The plant has won the PM's trophy seven out of 13 times it has been awarded since it was instituted.

The plant recorded a profit (before tax) of Rs 4,042 crore in 2004-05. It produced more than five million tonnes of hot metal in 2005-06 and produced a similar quantity of crude steel.
