BHS wins cultural competition

AS THE three-day inter-school cultural festival, Alfresco-2006, concluded on Thursday night at the Boys High School (BHS) & College, its Flynn Hall, jampacked with boys and girls as well as principals and teachers of the six participating schools, reverberated with long joyous cheers, as, in the cultural events, the Boys' High School (BHS) & College were declared the winners, followed by St Fidelis College (SFC), Lucknow, who emerged as proud runners-up.

AS THE three-day inter-school cultural festival, Alfresco-2006, concluded on Thursday night at the Boys High School (BHS) & College, its Flynn Hall, jampacked with boys and girls as well as principals and teachers of the six participating schools, reverberated with long joyous cheers, as, in the cultural events, the Boys' High School (BHS) & College were declared the winners, followed by St Fidelis College (SFC), Lucknow, who emerged as proud runners-up.

For the Swimming Trophy (boys), the winners were BHS and the runners-up were St. Fidelis College (SFC), Lucknow. And, in Swimming for girls, while the Girls' High School (GHS) were declared the winners, followed by Crosthwaite Girls College (CGC) as the runners-up.

The basketball trophy for boys went to BHS and St. John's Academy (SJA) were the runners-up while the basketball trophy for girls was won by SFC and the runners-up trophy went to GHS. The football trophy went to BHS, the winner, and the trophy for the runners-up was bagged by SJA.

Chief guest, Brig. Baljeet Singh Gill, of the Service Selection Centre at Allahabad, his wife, and Bishop AR Stephen, distributed trophies and prizes to all the winners at different events. He was welcomed by BHS Principal, CV Innes, who highlighted the multi-dimentional objective behind organising Alfresco every year.
Chief guest Brig Gill, while speaking on the occasion, said that in order to achieve his goal in life, one has to work hard with dedication and devotion.

Expressing his happiness over the high level of the sports and cultural extravaganza, 'Alfresco-2006', organised by the BHS, he said that the spirit of games or cultural activities lay in participation rather than in winning or losing.

What matters is that students get opportunity to showcase their talents and excel at various events.

The individual prize winners were as follows:
DEBATE—First: BHS (Mohit Nayar, Gourabh Mukherjee); Second: GHS (Deepika Dubey, Garima Singh);

Third: SJA (Ashish Singh, Ehsan Siddiqui); Best Speaker: Mohit Nayar (BHS); SOLO SINGING—First: BHS (Ishan Girish Wazalwar); Second: SJA (Mohd. Ehsan Siddiqui), Third: GHS (Varsha Chandra). QUIZ—First: SFC (Bilal Ahmad Kidwai, Ujjawal Kumar); Second: GHS (Ridhima Kandru, Aditi Manohar); Third: Air Force School (AFS) (Prashnat and Vikram). JAM—First: SFC (Barkha Basu); Second: BHS (Shubham Dang); Third: GHS (Deepika Dubey). ELOCUTION—First: BHS (Anshul Agarwal); Second: SFC (Akanksha Shukla); Third: SJA (Ambika Sinha).

GROUP SINGING—First: BHS (Ishan Girish Wazalwar, Anitesh John Saunders, Antariksha, Jabez Ruben Sethna, Kushal Verma, Swithin Lawrence, Aman De'Camp, Zevio Jude Rodrigues); Second: SFC (Divyansh Chandra, Saumya Agarwal, Ayusha Bose, Anuj Hatwal, Faraz Ahmad, Varun, Harsh, Nishal); Third: GHS (Yashika Rodney, Swechchha Kesarwani, Stuti Bisen, Aradhana Mukherjee, Poonam Verma, Emanshi Singh, Hera Rehman, Arpita Raj). Collage— First: AFS (Neha Seth, Anshu Verma); Second: BHS (Ankit Gupta, Rahul Jain); Third: GHS (Tanya Seth, Swati Haryan). Face-painting— First: BHS (Mohd. Sharaf Bin Parvez, Mudit Mishra), Second: AFS (Richa, Kalpana), Third: GHS (Anisha J Shimon, Devashree Banerjee). The function was conducted by A David, BHS cultural secretary, and the prize-distribution was taken care of by BHS College head, V Massey.
