A two-member delegation of State Human Rights Commission is arriving in Varanasi late on Tuesday evening in connection with an issue related to ancient Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

“We are trying to fix a meeting with the members of the State Human Rights Commission either on Tuesday evening or Wednesday and narrate the high handedness of the security personnel of BHU last week,” said Awadhesh Dixit, who was spearheading the ‘Kshatra Satyagrah’ on September 19.

“A delegation of students comprising all those injured in the incident will meet the State Human Rights Commission members and brief them about the atrocities committed on the students in BHU by the security personnel,” said the victim students of lathicharge, who have already submitted an application with the National Human Rights Commission.

Former State minister and an alumnus of BHU, Shatrudra Prakash on Monday filed an application with the State Human Rights Commission against the lathicharge on students in BHU on September 19 this month.

Shatrudra Prakash has filed the petition on behalf of students and parents who were injured during the lathicharge. The petition is filed against BHU vice-chancellor, chief proctor of BHU, district magistrate, senior superintendent of police of Varanasi, medical superintendent and incharge of Emergency Ward of SS Hospital in BHU.

It may be mentioned that security personnel of BHU had cane-charged the students demanding restoration of students’ union on September 19. A guardian was also injured in the lathicharge. Besides, reports said that the security personnel had also lathicharged students at Sir Sunderlal Hospital on the night on September 19.

There is wide-spread resentment among the students over the lathicharge incident and the students have launched a signature campaign to garner support against the alleged dictatorial attitude of the BHU administration.
