Developed by Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IITC), Bhadhoi, Snehabha is considered to be eco-friendly and cost effective and that is the reason why carpet manufacturers see future in this product.

“We are happy that the new technology developed by us has put back in demand handloom and hand-tufted carpets”, Dr KK Goswami, director IITC, told Hindustan Times. He added, “The new invention patented under the brand name of Snehabha is going to help carpet industry immensely”.

“The current three-day carpet expo in Varanasi has proved our point as some foreign buyers have desired to buy carpets of this technology”, Goswami said.

Meanwhile, to corroborate the point, a leading carpet manufacturer Bholanath Barnwal, who had also installed a stall at the carpet expo, said that some buyers of Holland and Belgium had ordered carpets of Snehabha technology.

“I am happy that this technology was liked by some foreign buyers at the carpet expo”, Bholanath Barnwal, CMD of Bholanath International, told HT at the fair site on Monday.

He said he was going to turn to this new technology in view of its growing acceptability. Sources said buyers of some other countries like Germany and Italy had also expressed desire to place orders for Snehabha carpets. “We believe it is a milestone in the history of handmade carpets”, Goswami said.
