Meanwhile, members of the Republican Party of India (A) organised a meeting in support of their demands at Ramashrey Park here on Tuesday. Besides, they handed over their memorandum through district administration to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The party leaders said that they demanded the restart of the closed mills of the city, as she was the head of the party leading the government at the Centre.
They said that the leather factory of world fame, TAFCo, was closed about five years back by the government and along with many reputed cotton and jute mills of the city, were lying closed for years.
The leaders demanded that if the Central Government takes proper imitative for the restart of the mills, then some of them could start functioning with minor modifications.
The leaders said that the local Congress MP and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal assured restarting one mill out of two-closed Elgin mills, but still the promise remained unfulfilled.
The prominent leaders were the national secretary of the party and president of the TAFCo Karmachari Sangh Rahulan Ambwadkar, Dr VS Lal, Sriram Gautam, Frank Roada, Dinesh Kumar Mishra, Dwarika Prasad and Md Yasin.
