The incident comes close on the heels of a similar incident in the state capital on October 8 when Phulwarisharif ASP Rakesh Kumar and his bodyguard Suresh Das were shot at in Chhajjubagh area under Kotwali police station.

Police sources said soon after the incident, the injured ASP Md Sohail was rushed to Narayan Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), Jamuhar, Sasaram. Public relations officer (PRO), NMCH, Bhupendra Narayan Singh, said the doctors, after an x-ray scan, found that a bullet had pierced the muscle of the right leg of the ASP. After first aid, the ASP was referred to a Varanasi hospital.

Superintendent of police (SP) Manavjit Singh Dhillon initially denied that the ASP was hit by a bullet stating that he was injured when some miscreants burst crackers in the marketplace. However, he later confirmed that some criminals had opened fire at him after he was coming out of Amber Hotel on Station Road in Dehri-on- Sone. He, however, said after treatment at the NMCH the ASP returned home. He said the police were looking into the case.
