Talking to newsmen after the clashes, Agarwal said, “My growing popularity has perturbed Bishnoi and he masterminded the attack on me,” Agarwal said.

“I have identified the three attackers —Vikas Jaiswal, Monu Gupta and Sanjeev Pandey — and a named FIR will be lodged against them,” Agarwal added.

Agarwal added the situation could have spiraled out of control had he not restrained his supporters from retaliating. “I was accompanied with 400 supporters and the attackers were merely 15 to 20. Had they retaliated the situation could have been worse,” asserted Agarwal. Commenting on the firing by his gunner, Agarwal said his guard Gulam Hussain had opened fire only to disperse the attackers and control the situation. Agarwal said one of his aides Sanjeev Trivedi suffered injuries while Jitendra Agnihotri’s car was damaged in the attack.

He added Bishnoi wanted to create communal violence and gain political mileage. He said communal clashes at Ram Narayan Bazar were the fallout of Bishnoi’s nefarious designs. “If Ram Narayan Bazar had burned, the trading community of the area would had been the worst sufferer,” remarked Agarwal.

Warning Bishnoi, he said, “My silence should not be misconstrued as my weakness. I can give a befitting reply to my detractors. I am in politics for the past 20 years and know how to deal with my opponents”.

District president of Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha Ambar Trivedi said, “We will teach Bishnoi a lesson if any such incident was repeated in the future”. Other SP leaders and supporters echoed Trivedi. Youth Brigade and Chhatra Sabha leaders warned the rival of retaliation if there was a repeat of today’s attack.
