DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) on Friday charged the BJP and other Sangh Parivar outfits with making attempts to create "disunity" among the people on the Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswati's arrest and at "communalising" the issue.

In a resolution at meeting of the DPA in Chennai, the constituents -- DMK, Congress, PMK, MDMK, CPI (M), CPI and IUML, flayed the BJP for involving the Centre and Congress President Sonia Gandhi in the Shankaracharya case. They said the BJP was "unnecessarily indulging in the mischievous propaganda to get political mileage out of the arrest."
When the arrest had proved that everybody was equal before the law, the Sangh Parivar outfits were "communalising" it, the resolution passed by them, said.
TNCC President GK Vasan, briefing reporters on the deliberations of the meeting, said the BJP's propaganda was "mischievous" and deserved "severe condemnation."
Another resolution alleged that the ruling AIADMK was "indirectly" preventing the implementation of the Sethusamudram project by "instigating" fishermen at the public hearings on the scheme. Some district collectors were helping the AIAMDK government on this, it alleged.
The meeting was attended by DMK President M Karunanidhi, TNCC President GK Vasan, PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss, CPI (M) leader N Varadarajan, R Nallakannu (CPI), L Ganesan (MDMK) and Khadhar Mohideen (IUML).
