"BJP is unable to understand why the UPA government was not able to contain prices with an economist Prime Minister in Manmohan Singh," party's national spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters in Nagpur.

Strongly criticising Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar's comment that he is not an astrologer, Prasad said he should refrain from making such irresponsible statements.

The Prime Minister, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Pawar himself should address the issue and answer the nation for the government's alleged failure to check price rise of essential commodities.

On separate Vidarbha, Prasad said surprisingly the Congress was maintaining a silence on the Telangana issue. He accused the Congress of failing to manage the aspirations of the people of regions wanting statehood.

To a question, he said when the process for creation of Vidarbha begins, BJP will try to convince its ally Shiv Sena.
