The BJP hailed actor Feroze Khan as a "true nationalist" for his reported criticism of Pakistan over the condition of Muslims in the Islamic country.
BJP Vice-President Mukthar Abbas Naqvi, also a former Information and Broadcasting Minister, however, regretted that other members of the Indian delegation, which Khan was part of, "apologised" to their Pakistani hosts for the Bollywood star's remarks.
"He (Khan) boldly spoke his mind and presented facts in Pakistan about human rights violations and biased treatment of Muslims who migrated there from India after the Partition. He in fact acted as a true nationalist and a humanist artiste," the BJP leader said.
Also, Naqvi said he had written a letter to Khan, appreciating him for his reported comments in Pakistan during the premiere of film Taj Mahal.
"Khan has made Indians feel proud by presenting a grand picture of India although people who accompanied him opposed his comments. There are some people who take pride in praising even the wrong aspects of Pakistan when they visit that country," the BJP leader remarked.
A Pakistani daily reported Khan criticised the condition of Muslims in Pakistan and praised India's secular traditions during the film premiere on Friday in Lahore.
The Bollywood actor, however, later denied making such comments attributed to him.
