DISTRICT MAGISTRATE Deepak Kumar administered a strong dose of punctuality to local BJP leaders for turning up two hours late for a scheduled meeting.
Clearly upset, the DM rapped them for not being disciplined at all. Led by Sarla Singh the leaders were told to be punctual. “I have a lot of work to do, besides this,” he said, and added, “In future always keep this in mind”. The shocked leaders gave their excuses but couldn’t mellow down the DM. In between a worker started reading out the three-page memorandum only to invite an angry response from Kumar. He asked him to stop and hand over the memorandum.
Sarla Singh, again eyeing the mayoral seat from Kanpur, has become active in city politics. Nearly two days ago, she had sought an appointment from the District Magistrate to apprise him of certain issues related to security of temples on Navratri and Ram Navmi, erratic power supply, corruption in KDA and KNN, water-logging, outbreak of chicken pox, measles, malaria and black marketing of LPG cylinders.
Since Kumar is also officiating vice-chairman of KDA and administrator of KNN, several issues were related to him as well. But Singh and her delegation reached the DM office nearly two hours late.
