Talking to newsmen, the minister said that those who were talking about Uttam Pradesh must do something for improving the infrastructure for making the State conducive for investment.
Taking a dig at the Government, he said even industrialists of the state were setting up their units in other states like West Bengal.
Replying to a query, he stated that export of value added products would be encouraged and in near future export of raw materials would be banned.
“A total of Rs 700 crore of herbal products are exported from the country and 60 per cent of them are herbs,” stated the minister. Likewise raw iron was being exported to China, he said.
“Export of value added manufactured products will be encouraged to ensure maxim profit and no specific date can be given at present but export of raw material will be banned in near future,” he asserted.
On WTO stalemate, he said: “We are pressurising developed nations to cut farm subsidies.”
Earlier addressing exporters in a session on ‘Open House on Export Promotion from State of UP’, Ramesh categorically stated that it was high time for the state to implement VAT. “Only UP and TN have not implemented VAT. In the larger interest of traders, the State will have to implement VAT,” he asserted.
He also rebuffed all fears related to VAT and asserted that it was in the larger interest of the State Government to implement it.
