Body of engineering student found in river

The body of a student of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, was fished out of Brahmani river on Monday, the police said.

The body of a student of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, was fished out of Brahmani river on Monday, the police said.

"The body of second year B Tech (Mechanical) student Kumar Gourav (22), who hailed from Darbhanga in Bihar, was found from deep water about after 15 hours of search," sub-divisional police officer, Amaresh Panda said.

Gourav went missing after being swept by river current near Birtola ghat on Sunday.

Divers of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) found the body stuck among submerged boulders and stones.

Gourav and 15 other students went to the area for picnic. When Gourav's spectacles fell into the river, he tried to recover it and suddenly slipped into the water.

He did not know how to swim, the police said.
