The book written by NRI attorney Anu Peshawaria, who once represented India in Wimbledon as a young tennis star, suggests parents to inquire enough about the groom or the family before marrying off their daughters to NRIs.
"Parents are in great hurry to marry off their daughters to NRI's, they fall for the USA and the dollar bait. They do not inquire enough about the groom or the family," Anu Peshawaria said after release of her at a function in Fremont, California this past weekend.
"That is one mistake every parent should avoid. Every time I meet a deserted woman, I wish her parents had at least inquired about the groom," she said.
"The real stories in the book can serve as warnings, read them and you would know the mistakes parents make, the traps that they fall into," Peshawaria said.
Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, Sushmita Thomas, Consul General at the New York Consulate were among those attended the function, which was followed by a panel discussion on immigration in particular how to prevent fraudulent marriages.
Speaking on the occasion, Consul General Thomas suggested creating a easy accessible number like 311. This number will be linked to local police agency as a reporting of domestic violence, she said.
