Boy drowns in school pool

The parents and grandfather of nine-year-old Ranjan, who drowned in his school’s swimming pool here on Thursday morning, have alleged that he died due to the negligence of the school authorities.

The parents and grandfather of nine-year-old Ranjan, who drowned in his school’s swimming pool in Chennai on Thursday morning, have alleged that he died due to the negligence of the school authorities.

Ranjan was among 26 class 4 students of Padma Sheshadri Bal Bhavan School who went into the pool after the morning prayers. The swimming coach found Ranjan floating lifelessly in the pool after the other students returned to their class.

He was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead.

Ranjan’s father Manoharan, is a producer and director of Tamil films. The boy’s grandfather alleged Ranjan died due to lax supervision by the school authorities.

Police have begun an investigation. The boy’s body has been sent for autopsy.
