The boy had to be rushed to KGMU’s Trauma Centre where he was admitted as a patient of firearm injury. First, he was taken care of by the residents of general surgery department to stabilise his condition and then was transferred to the neurosurgery department.

The shooting incident took place at 1.30 pm today when Shobhit, a resident of Andela locality under Bhagauli police area in Hardoi, was playing with his brother. Shobhit’s parents and other family members were sleeping, thinking that the two were just playing.

However, while playing, the boys took out a country-made pistol kept in the house. Their play took a serious turn when Shobhit got angry with his brother for teasing him. “We are not very sure actually what happened but perhaps he could not bear the irritation and shot himself in the head,” said Satya Prakash, father of the injured child.

Luckily, the bullet pierced through the left side of Shobhit’s head and went out immediately, restricting poison from getting mixed with the blood.

Shobhit underwent an operation at the Trauma Centre in the wee hours of Sunday. Meanwhile, the father of the boy, is facing trouble, with the police planning to investigate as to how a country-made gun was kept in the house.

Cops from the KGMU police outpost recorded the statement of Shobhit’s father and aunt.
