"The special task force has conducted a very good investigation and a breakthrough is expected to be made in a day or two," Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Yashpal Singh said without elaborating.
He was talking to reporters here after a high-level meeting, convened by Union Home Secretary VK Duggal, reviewed the security arrangements at key temples at Ayodhya, Kashi- Vishwanath and Mathura and Taj Mahal and decided to put in place a high-tech security cover there to prevent future attacks.
Replying to questions, UP Chief Secretary Neera Yadav rejected a suggestion that a security lapse had led to the Ayodhya attack.
"This is absolutely false. There was no security lapse at all. It was an unprecedented action on the part of CRPC and PAC which thwarted the attack within half-an-hour," Yadav said.
UP government sources said the investigation into the terror strike involved five states. "The ramification of the probe are wide," they said.
