Brix opened with a wood-fired oven, a well-stocked wine cellar that doubled as the venue for overpriced dinners, lots of fanfare, and a fan following as well, when the hotel, then known as the Grand Hyatt, opened in a godforsaken part of the city. After the Grand Hyatt moved out and the hotel was deprived of an international tag at a time when other dining options were proliferating, the restaurant fell out of people's radar screens. It's working hard at regaining some of its lost glory with a decent selection of pizzas, New Zealand lamb chops and Norwegian salmon steak, Glazed Duck Breast Marinated in Cinnamon Flavoured Sauce, or the Spit-Roasted Marinated Vegetables, with decent accompaniments like Pont-Neuf Potatoes (the original french fries) and Gratinated Spinach. From the dessert menu, we recommend the Apricot Grappa Tiramisu and Baked Cheesecake with Berry Compote.

Note: On Sundays, Brix offers a three-course brunch (Rs 950 plus taxes; complimentary glass of the Spanish sparkling wine, Freixenet, included). That makes it the least value-for-money Sunday brunch in the city! At La Cava, which can accommodate 12 people, a three-course dinner will set you back by Rs 2,000 per person (wines not included). The dinner party must have a minimum of eight people.

Wine List: Brix has a reasonably priced decent collection, though, for a reason we haven't been able to fathom, Bordeaux First Growths or the Burgundian stars, or even the big players of Sancerre and Alsace, are poorly represented. Keeping in mind this inexplicable absence of the wine world's stars, we recommend Chile's Miguel Torres Maqueha Chardonnay, Rosemount Estate Semillon Chardonnay from Australia, Woodbridge Sauvignon Blanc from Robert Mondavi (California), and three reds that somewhat offset the absence of Bordeaux's biggies - the Australian D'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz, Amarone della Valpolicella Allegrini from Italy and Torres Mas La Plana from Spain.
