Bus overturns in Noida; 1 dead

One person was killed and eight were injured when a speeding bus hit a road divider and turned turtle in Noida Phase II area on Monday.

One person was killed and eight were injured when a speeding bus hit a road divider and turned turtle in Noida Phase II area on Monday. Three of the critically injured were referred to a Delhi hospital.

The victim has been identified as Balishter Singh (16). One of the injured passengers, Surinder Kumar, who was admitted at the District Government Hospital narrated the incident.

"I boarded the bus from Kulesra for Ghaziabad. The bus was running on the Dadri-Ghaziabad route. A white bus had stopped ahead of us to pick up passengers. The driver of our bus tried to overtake that bus. The two buses were trying to overtake each other when the white bus hit our bus. Our bus hit the divider and turned turtle. There were about 35 passengers in our bus," he said.

Three of the critically injured were referred to a Delhi hospital. They were Ilama Devi (45), resident of Najafgarh in Delhi; Sheela (40), resident of Palwal in Faridabad, and Suresh(18), resident of Greater Noida, said Shekar Yadav, a doctor on duty.

The driver and the conductor of the bus are absconding.
