Parking in Aminabad is becoming a nightmare for the common man. Vehicles parked in zigzag manner and encroachments are causing discomfort to the people visiting the area.
According to the municipal corporation sources, complaining of the mismanaged parking system, traders of the area had met the municipal commissioner, who obliged them by arranging a parking stand in front of the State Bank of India building. Surprisingly, the traders got the parking removed just after 24 hours allegedly because they were being charged for parking their vehicles.
Municipal Commissioner Ram Bodh Maurya cancelled the parking contract on Monday after the complaints of over charging by the traders against the contractor Deep Chand Gupta. According to the contractor, he was ready to park the vehicles of traders at lesser rates, but they wanted free parking, which he refused. “I have paid Rs 28,000 for the contract. How would I recover the amount if I don’t charge from the traders,” he asked. “I am here to earn, and not to make losses. So, its better that the contract is terminated, at least I would get my deposit back,” he said.
Additional municipal commissioner AC Sinha too expressed his surprise at the developments. “The traders requested us to arrange the parking, which we did.
Why they opposed the parking which was just a day old is surprising,” he said.
He further informed that the traders had promised to manage the parking themselves, and we have agreed.
Though the fight between the traders, contractor and the LMC bosses might be over, it is the common man who stands to lose as he is no where in the picture.
